The Software Engineering Internship is a temporary position within HII – Mission Technologies which prepares a college student for entry into the workforce by providing emphasis on training in development, testing, and implementation of software solutions for defense applications.

What You Will Do

  • Assist in the analysis of Rockwell Automation software for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) consisting of Logix5000, Visual Studio HMI interface, Visual Basic C++ and various communication software Assist in the analysis and documentation of software requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to the design, development and testing of software solutions for defense-related projects.
  • Support the creation of technical documentation, including software design documents, user manuals and test plans. and final result acceptance.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide valuable insights and recommendations for software improvements.
  • Assist in the identification ad resolution of software-related technical issues and bugs.
  • Conduct regular testing and validation of software code error and provide solutions to ensure compliance with NAVSEA standards and project requirements.

Education:

  • Must currently be enrolled as a student in an accredited public or private college or university and have more than 60% of required college credits completed.

  • Minimum requirement of a cumulative 3.0 GPA while participating in this internship.

Skills:

  • Strong academic performance with a focus on courses related to software development, algorithms, software language codes and programing languages.
  • Solid understanding of software programming engineering principles, and best practices, with the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, etc.
  • Familiarity with software development tools and environments (e.g., Git, JIRA, Agile methodologies, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner.

PagerDuty is seeking a Senior Security Engineer (Security Automation) to join our diverse, customer-focused team! As a Senior Security Engineer, you will be a key contributor to leading security initiatives supporting the PagerDuty SaaS offerings through designing security tool implementations, security process improvements, and increasing security operational capacity through automation and orchestration. Since we own and operate what we build, you'll collaborate closely with engineers across many product development teams. You will work closely with our internal development teams to ensure we deliver secure, highly reliable, and scalable solutions to our customers. The ideal candidate will come from a large enterprise environment focused on development of the Security Guardrails, Tool Integrations, and the SOAR space (Security, Orchestration, Automation and Response). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Embrace the role of hands-on technical lead in designing security automations, tool integrations, and security relevant alerting to support product and infrastructure guardrails, vulnerability management, and incident response activities.
  • Mentor and help guide team members to scope upcoming projects and support agile approaches to work management.
  • Foster a strong writing culture through creation of accurately scoped project charters and design documents.
  • Define and plan work at the multi-team level, contributing to roadmap and annual planning discussions.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Product Development teams to build a robust vulnerability management program using automations and workflows to drive timely remediations, with focus on increasing visibility with reporting and metrics.
  • Work with loosely defined requirements where you exercise your analytical skills to clarify questions, share your approach, and collaborate with the rest of the team to build/test elegant solutions.
  • Participate in our team's On-Call rotation, triaging and addressing security issues as they arise, and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Monitor, support, and maintain 1st party and 3rd party security tools supporting guardrail implementations, compliance automation, incident response, and vulnerability management.
  • Partner with peer security teams to implement controls that detect and alert on deviations from established policies or standards.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience as a full-stack Security Engineer in a cloud-native, micro-service SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS environment, preferably in AWS.

  • 3+ years of experience integrating security testing into SDLC processes and securing CI/CD pipelines.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and building API-driven integrations favoring no code/low code solutions where feasible.

  • Demonstrated experience building Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) playbooks.

  • Ability to design, implement, monitor, and operate security logging and alerting toolsets.

  • Technical stack experience required to be successful in this role:

  • AWS Security (GuardDuty, CloudTrail, Secrets Manager, EKS/ECR, IAM family, Config), Vulnerability management (Qualys/Nessus, Wiz, Snyk), SIEM (SumoLogic or Splunk), Container Security, CI/CD Discipline (Helm, Terraform, Chef, Kubernetes (EKS)), Security Incident Response & Risk Management.

  • 4+ years of experience and proficiency in at least one programming language and framework (e.g. Python, Bash, Phoenix/Elixir, Java, Ruby on Rails).

  • Have exceptional written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Organizational skills with ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong appetite for challenging problems with a high degree of ownership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current or past experience with obtaining and maintaining FedRAMP authorization.
  • Experience working at a SaaS company larger than 1000 employees and 100M in revenue.
  • Ability to think through a complex problem, build a solution, and execute that solution with effective change management skills.
  • Possesses a strong sense of ownership and a keen discernment for excellence in security systems within a SaaS environment, demonstrating the ability to distinguish what constitutes a truly robust and effective safeguarding infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PagerDuty Incident Management and Process Automation products.
  • Demonstrated history of mentoring and coaching.
  • Familiarity with Corporate security needs and solutions, and ability to provide oversight and mentorship to the Corporate Security team to ensure alignment with CISO mandates.

The base salary range for this position is 176,000 - 281,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, commission, equity, and/or benefits.

Our base salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range, which is subject to change based on primary work location, reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze business requirements.

Information Technology (IT) Division

Provides information systems and computer support for employees, customers of the Department of State, and therefore the people of Colorado. Most of the work completed by the division can be done remotely, contributing to the positive work-life balance of its employees. This includes maintaining computer hardware and peripherals. Staff develops, upgrades, enhances, and maintains computer applications and system software for the use of Departmental staff and the public. Processing and storing data received from Colorado counties for voter registration, charitable gaming licenses, UCC filings, domestic and foreign corporations, notary, campaign finance, and lobbyist systems. The Colorado Department of State is unique from many state agencies in that we are a smaller agency with an in-house IT division, as a result our employees maintain greater collective impact over the work product of the Department.

Development Unit

This work unit develops, upgrades, enhances, and maintains web application and system software for the use of Departmental staff and the general public. The unit also provides application support for various web applications, which could include, but not limited to, voter registration, charitable gaming licenses, UCC filings, domestic and foreign corporations, notary, campaign finance, and lobbyist systems.

As the Java Development Supervisor, you will be a valued leader of the Java Development Team, as well as a senior developer and an IT expert in Java development. You will work across all development projects, designing and constructing new applications, as well as maintaining existing applications. You will participate in team design, analysis, development, testing, and maintenance, as well as test and learn assigned new development technologies for the Department, such as React and Spring Boot.

The ideal candidate will be a critical and creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills. To succeed in this role, it is important that you have outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Illustration of some of your duties:

  • Java Development – You willdesign and develop, in Java, and other programming languages, enhancements and future systems, along with maintaining and fixing bugs in current systems, which will include resolution of legacy application issues; provide expertise in the optimization of Java code through best practices; maintain/create working object oriented (OO) program modules to be incorporated into actual systems; apply current OO theory to module construction; test program modules during system development; work as part of a software development team in an Agile DevOps environment.
  • Supervision of Unit Personnel – You will plan, prioritize, assign, analyze, and monitor workflow; establish work schedules, review and approve worktime and absences; initiate the hiring process, provide subject matter expertise to HR during the comparative analysis process, interview candidates and hire; onboard and oversee training of new employees in unit; recommend promotions and changes in pay; resolve problems, performance issues, disputes, and informal grievances; initiate corrective action or recommend progressive discipline as needed; identify training and developmental needs, and provide training as needed; provide feedback and coaching; write performance plans, conduct interim and annual performance evaluations; sign performance evaluations; write and update position descriptions as necessary.
  • Secure DevOps Leadership and Technical Review – You will serve as a leader and mentor for the Java team and the software development unit as we adopt Secure DevOps practices; engage with individual developers on a continuing basis to verify architecture and best practices are being followed in development; lead evaluation of processes, tools, and technical architectures for the software development lifecycle; lead technical and process initiatives as the agency adopts Secure DevOps principles; be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the set of tools used by the Java development team, including the budget cost for the software; be responsible for developing metrics and measures for the Java team to be used in assessing the organization's maturity in Secure DevOps and recommending changes or shifts in our approach as appropriate.
  • Collaboration – You will collaborate with Developers, Managers, Systems Administrators, and other IT teams to determine system and application compatibility with Departmental standards and to resolve any issues; assist in the understanding of, and analyze the impact of, defects in the production environment, suggesting possible remedies to supervisors, peers, and user community; review work by peers and advance IT Division Object-Oriented expertise in code review and formal sessions. In doing this, position will ensure they understand and address the needs of a diverse staff and respond in a culturally appropriate manner.
