The team provides actionable insights upstream and works with our engineering teams to constantly implement solutions at scale through better automation strategies to make the internet a safer place for all. Successful candidates for this team have a bias toward action and enjoy finding patterns amid chaos, making quick decisions, and aren't afraid of being wrong. The ideal candidate will have a background in a quantitative field as well as IT security, bot detection/mitigation, scraping etc. The candidate will have experience working with large data sets and will have in-depth experience in data-driven decision making. You are scrappy, focused on results, a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using analytics to reduce abuse and negative user experiences across the platform.

Security Engineer, Anti Scraping Responsibilities:

  • Use your extensive domain knowledge of Scraping and Bot detection to proactively detect automated abuse against our platform
  • Uncover insights into network traffic (web or mobile) if there are automated attacks against our servers/products
  • Develop tools to combat scraping
  • Apply your knowledge in quantitative business analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to identify trends and opportunities in investigating and blocking scraping
  • Analyze and interpret data on which to devise hypotheses
  • Create investigation reports that clearly communicate issues and risks from both a technical and business perspective
  • Implement effective countermeasures to stop scraping based on these identified patterns
  • Contribute to Meta’s anti-abuse codebase in PHP, Python, and Haskell
  • Be a thought leader for data-informed initiatives and guide the team’s overall direction
  • Partner with Data Science, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to solve problems at scale
  • Work effectively with our partners in Legal and eCrime to investigate scrapers and scraping activities
  • Work with internal teams to understand what happens with exfiltrated data
  • Partner with internal teams to help shape and inform bot detection technology

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in the adversarial space working on Scraping, Bot detection and mitigation
  • 2+ years of experience doing quantitative analysis
  • 2+ years of programming experience with languages such Haskell, Java, C++, Perl, Python, PHP
  • Experience querying large data sets and using SQL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Math/Finance, Physics, Applied Economics, Statistics or other technical field
  • Experience contributing to the security community (open source, academic research, industry research, blogs, presentations, etc.)

The Impact

The Data Science COE at S&P Global is looking for a hands-on Full-Stack Engineering leader to lead the full-stack engineering design and development efforts for the ML applications developed by the COE. role will lead, implement and define the full-stack platform strategy, and design and develop front-end and application layer solutions for our ML services while working with a broad range of partners across data, technology and business teams.

You will create software, applications, and scalable web services, while also providing leadership for software platform and engineering teams

Job Description

Multiple positions available. Collaborate with engineers in conceptualizing, planning and executing medium-sized data engineering initiative working with a variety of stakeholders. Work with internal engineering and product teams to identify opportunities for improvements or feature enhancements to our data platforms and to improve overall engineering efficiency. Work on pipelines ingesting data greater than 1gb per second. Design and build data platforms and frameworks for processing high volumes of data, in real time as well as batch, that will be used across engineering teams. Drive self-time capabilities for the engineering teams to easily onboard their critical data workloads onto our platforms. Use strong communication skills (written and verbal) to coordinate with engineering, analytics, and other teams to assess the cost and value of existing and potential projects. Research and evaluate new technologies in the big data space to guide continuous improvement. Collaborate with multifunctional engineers across the company to help tune the performance of large data applications to drive cost savings. Work on initiatives to ensure stability, performance and reliability of company’s data infrastructure. Position allows telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. Salary $160,000 - $265,000 per year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, or related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as Software Engineer, Software Developer or any position/occupation/job title involving data software engineering. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of experience, the employer will accept a Master’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, or related field, plus 3 years of professional experience as Software Engineer, Software Developer or any position/occupation/job title involving data software engineering.

Must also have experience in the following: 3 years of professional experience performing data software engineering (including leading and collaborating with Data Infrastructure, Data Engineering and Product teams across web and apps) using Java and Python; 3 years of professional experience working on big data systems and projects/products at scale for a global company; 3 years of professional experience handling large transaction volumes (at least 1 million transactions per second) of data and performing data queries using querying languages including SQL, deriving insights from the data, and strategizing future roadmap decisions based on those insights; 3 years of professional experience building data platforms using cloud native technologies (Docker and Kubernetes); 3 years of professional experience performing software engineering practices and employing best practices for the full software development life cycle (including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations).
