Day to Day

Indeed Security Engineering is looking for a motivated Senior Security Software Engineer to join our team. As a Security Engineer you will manage and drive the change in making Indeed more secure. You will be responsible for researching, designing, building and operating systems which keep Indeed secure. You will play a key role in defining, building and operating effective and simple-to-use security capabilities that will be leveraged by Indeed’s Product and Technology teams, impact the Employers and JobSeekers experience on our platform, and improve the maturity of our product security. You will interact with technical teams across Indeed to secure global systems that scale to tens of millions of pageviews a day, see over 200 million unique visitors per month, and serve users in over 25 global offices.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate product ownership - if you build it, you own and support it
  • Design systems that are scalable, performant and reliable
  • Build product capabilities that are frictionless to adopt by Indeed’s product and engineering teams to improve our product security. Our work can be in diverse Security domains such as Workload Identity (System to System Authentication), finding Secrets in code, data encryption and tokenization, bot detection etc
  • Curious about various programming stacks and can develop security systems that integrate with popular programing stacks
  • Plan and develop systematic solutions to problems instead of focusing on one-off fixes
  • Discuss, and make recommendations with stakeholders about balancing short-term needs and aligning them with a pathway to long-term target designs

Job Description

The NBC News Group Digital team is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager on the Apps Platform & Video team who will work with our team of talented engineers across four Mobile Apps teams to design and build the next generation of NBC News' and CNBC’s flagship applications.

About the team

The Apps Platform team consists of Android, iOS, Lightning and Roku developers that focus on these areas of scope: Mobile Platform, Video, OTT Platform and Developer Experience. This team partners with the Android and iOS experience teams to improve developer efficiency and feature velocity. This team also iterates on tools, workflows, and build processes, and focuses on building a scalable and reliable app architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for the execution and delivery of initiatives on our mobile and OTT engineering roadmap
  • Manage a team of 5 to 7 mobile and OTT engineers (full-time and contractors), fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development
  • Champion best practices in mobile development and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies
  • Support video playback of livestream, video on-demand, and authenticated video across mobile, OTT and connected TV clients
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews with direct reports

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in native mobile app development (iOS and/or Android)
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role as an Engineering Lead or an Engineering Manager
  • Enthusiasm for building robust and efficient mobile platforms for other developers
  • Strong technical skills in mobile app development (Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java) and modern mobile development build tools

Role Objectives

Senior Software Engineer is responsible for assisting in the technical vision and strategic planning of all aspects of software solutions for the Capital Market business. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, implement, and maintain integration solutions, while ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. You will play a crucial role in shaping the future of HIE technology, collaborating with New York’s Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), and ensuring seamless integration of various systems and applications, enabling efficient and effective data flow across the organization. To succeed in this role, you must have a strong technical background and a deep understanding of integration principles and best practices. You should be adept at analyzing complex problems, identifying root causes, and providing innovative solutions. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, as you will be working closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

This position reports to the Executive Director of TechBD. This role can be based out of the Albany, NY or Manhattan, NY office.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • System Integration and Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust integrations between our Mirth- and PostgreSQL-based universal data infrastructure and various EHRs and digital health systems, focusing on collaboration with multiple Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) and Qualified Entities (QEs). Ensure seamless data flow and interoperability across diverse healthcare systems and institutions.
  • Client Collaboration: Engage directly with healthcare clients, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers, to gather and understand their specific integration requirements to various QEs and how TechBD can assist QEs with integration challenges. Tailor solutions that align with their needs while ensuring compliance with health information standards and privacy laws.
  • Project Coordination: Act as a project coordinator for integration projects, managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder communication. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
  • On-Site Implementation and Support: Conduct on-site visits to client locations for system implementation, troubleshooting, and to provide ongoing support. This includes hands-on work with HIE and QE systems to ensure successful integration and operation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software developers, product managers, and support teams to ensure smooth, efficient, and effective integration processes. Facilitate cross-functional team efforts to resolve complex integration challenges.
  • Documentation and Continuous Improvement: Maintain detailed documentation of integration designs, processes, customer interactions, and lessons learned. Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing integration capabilities, system performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in designing and implementing integration solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of integration technologies and protocols, such as REST, SOAP, and JSON.
  • Proficient in programming languages like Java, Python, or C#. - Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in integration engineering, with a strong focus on system integration using industry standard protocols and technologies.
  • Familiarity with API design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of data integration patterns and methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with middleware and integration platforms.
  • Proficient in electronic data exchange mechanisms. This could include Web Services, HL7 v2 or v3, FHIR or other data interchange standards and mechanisms.
  • Experience with Mirth Connect and channel development.
  • Demonstrated ability to help design and lead data interchange between healthcare systems.
  • Experience in implementing, managing, and supporting system interfaces, preferable in a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of standard healthcare terminology.
  • Knowledge of XML, XSLT.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or Azure required.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • High degree of knowledge in terms of security and compliance considerations in integration projects.
  • Travel required throughout NY State as needed for on-site client visits (up to 25%).

Experience and Skills Preferred:

  • Health Information Technology (HIT) and Health Information Exchange (HIE) background.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge:Familiarity with Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Protected Health Information (PHI), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) compliance frameworks is highly valued in this role. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of these regulations and the implications for system architecture and software development within our sector. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Designing and implementing secure systems that protect sensitive data and ensure privacy.
  • Understanding and applying the necessary controls and procedures to maintain compliance with HIPAA and HITRUST standard.
  • Navigating the complexities of data protection regulations to support our organization's goals and compliance requirements.
  • Industry certifications in integration technologies (Mirth Connect or similar) a plus.
  • Experience with data mapping and data transformation.

Expectations of Employees:

  • Employees work a hybrid in-office schedule (at either our Manhattan, NY or Albany, NY office and then remotely). Barring specific exemptions, team members are expected to work from the office on a regular schedule determined by the COO and on other days specified by their manager (no less than 1 day per week in the office). This schedule is subject to change.
  • NYeC supports work happening across New York State. From time to time our team members must visit other parts of the state. The most common requirement is for a New York City based team member to travel to Albany and vice versa.

We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience, qualifications, and home office location (Manhattan, NY vs. Albany, NY). The annual base salary range for this role for an Albany based candidate is $110,00 to $130,000. The annual base salary range for this role for a NYC based candidate is $130,000 to $155,000.The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, NYeC will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with NYeC.
